Uniform Services Day returns to Trowbridge Park

Trowbridge Park was filled with activity on Saturday 12th September, as Uniform Services Day returned to the town following the cancellation of last year’s event due to severe weather.

Organised by Trowbridge Town Council, the free family event welcomed the community to meet and engage with the services that serve and support the public. Visitors enjoyed a day of displays,
demonstrations, entertainment and activities, while learning more about the work of the organisations taking part.

Across the park, visitors could explore a wide range of equipment, vehicles and memorabilia, while meeting representatives from organisations including the Royal British Legion, RAF and Trowbridge Army Cadet Force. The Fire & Rescue Zone featured Wiltshire Search and Rescue, Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service, the Royal National Lifeboat Institution and UK Mines Rescue, while Wiltshire Police and WAGS Retired Police Dogs welcomed visitors to the Police Zone. The Medical Zone also gave the public the chance to learn more about the work of Wiltshire and Bath Air Ambulance, St John Ambulance and Freewheelers Emergency Blood Bikes.

Throughout the day, the arena and stage hosted a programme of displays and demonstrations. Wiltshire Concert Band (formerly the Wiltshire Police Band), along with local act Luke Gittins brought music to the park, while Frome K9 showcased the skills and abilities of its dogs. War time dancers and Wiltshire Caledonian Pipes & Drums also took to the floor, adding to the varied programme.

Families were also well catered for, with face painting, a climbing wall and also free caricatures available throughout the day. Paw Patrol characters and bubble performers could be found around the park throughout the day, attracting plenty of attention from younger visitors.

The event also featured a variety of charity and community stalls, including the Mayor of Trowbridge’s two chosen charities, Group 5 and Storehouse Foodbank. Visitors could also enjoy food and
refreshments from Planya, Picnic Canteen Bath, Sourdough Bro and Everyone’s Brew, while those with a sweet tooth were well catered for with treats from Boo’s Bakehouse, T+B’s Delights Churros, 1st Choice Sweets and Ice Queen.

Uniform Services Day provided a fantastic opportunity for the community to come together, meet the people behind the services, learn more about the important work they do and show their support and appreciation.

Trowbridge Town Council would like to thank all of the Armed and Uniformed Services, exhibitors, performers, charities, community groups, volunteers and traders who helped make the event possible, as well as everyone who came along to enjoy the day.
