Trowbridge Town Council has been delighted with the success of the Trowbridge Summer Challenge Passport, which has encouraged children and families to get active and make the most of the summer holidays.
Developed in partnership with Trowbridge Youth Parliament and supported by the Council’s Active Trowbridge team, the passport included 20 free challenges encouraging young people and their families to get outdoors and discover more of Trowbridge.
The response from families has been really positive, with young people taking part in a wide range of activities, from visiting local parks and completing a 1km walk or run, to going on a bike ride, visiting Multi-Use Games Areas (MUGAs) and attending Active Trowbridge’s free Sports Roadshows.
A key priority was ensuring that every challenge could be completed free of charge, giving families plenty of ideas for activities during the school holidays without adding to the cost of the summer break.
Young people could work towards three different achievement levels:
- Bronze – complete 10 challenges
- Silver – complete 15 challenges
- Gold – complete all 20 challenges
Those who completed the challenge were able to bring their passport to Trowbridge Town Council’s Information Centre at The Civic, where they collected a special bronze, silver or gold certificate recognising their achievement.
The passport has also been a great opportunity for Trowbridge Youth Parliament to help shape an initiative for young people in the town, combining their ideas with the experience of the Council’s Active Trowbridge team.
Following the positive response to this year’s challenge, Trowbridge Town Council is pleased to confirm that the Summer Challenge Passport will return next year. The Council and Trowbridge Youth Parliament will build on this year’s experience and look at how the challenge can be developed further to encourage even more young people and families to take part.
