Trowbridge Lions Club – Giving Back To The Community

Trowbridge Lions Club donated a new defibrillator to Studley Green Community Centre. It was presented to Bob Brice, the Vice Chair of the Centre.

The Lion’s held a “thank you” evening for all the members and volunteers that helped over the Christmas period with the Santa Float community collections.

An amazing £5024 was raised over 12 nights with 420 miles walked!

Tesco’s also allowed Santa to collect donations over 5 days, where they managed to raise a further £2371.

The Lion’s have supplied with funds raised over the past couple of years.

  • A defibrillator to Castle Place shopping centre, with the recent addition of a bleed kit.
  • Mobile Defibrillator to Trowbridge Link Minibus: Trowbridge Link is another charity community group that provides a “good neighbour” scheme staffed by volunteers. Its aim is to help local people who are infirm, elderly, or otherwise disadvantaged in a personal and friendly way. The majority of the work done by volunteers involves taking people to medical appointments. Knowing that a Link driver will collect them from their home, take them to the appointment, and be there when it is time to go back home again can be very reassuring for someone who is elderly, nervous, or frail.

A little more about what the Lions will do in our community in 2023:

  • Along with St. James Church, they supplied 37 x £40 Tesco vouchers to support Trowbridge families.
  • Provided The Haven with £60 to pay for the Christmas homeless lunch.
  • Supplied and distributed the soup run twice a month.
  • Supplied numerous white goods, beds, and other items to families.
  • Supplied 12 “Wild Tribe” packs to Trowbridge Primary Schools, including beautifully illustrated storybooks highlighting endangered animals and the environment.
  • Supported LCIF with donations to the Morocco earthquake appeal.

They meet on the 2nd Thursday evening each month at 8pm at the Community room, Tesco Extra, County Way, Trowbridge BA14 7AQ and then plan activities for other times, but members can just give of what ever time they feel able. No pressure is applied and they only require a commitment to attend two meetings a month with apologies if absent.
