Trowbridge FHSF – Castle Street Planting Project

As part of the Future High Streets Fund enhancement to Trowbridge and as part of the works currently being undertaken by Milestone on Cradle Bridge, Castle St. Trowbridge Town Council was provided the earmarked funds for the soft landscaping element of the whole project. The council has worked with local artist Kitty Brown Designs to provide these colorful, sustainable planting schemes for the areas of soft landscaping to that area. We are excited to present these to residents and visitors to the town. Officers of the town council were also successful in asking Wiltshire Council to replace the new proposed ‘standard’ bus shelters for this area with the town’s first Sedum roof bus shelters. These will also be the first shelters to display the towns colors. We are sure that both Human and Insect residents or visitors will enjoy spending time in this area when it develops!

At the meeting, Kitty Brown gave the Neighbourhoods Services Committee a short presentation on the designs of the Castle Street planters that were inspired by a piece of cloth from Trowbridge Museum and was manufactured at Stone Mills. Plants have been selected considered the following: low maintenance, drought tolerant, pollinator, insect & wildlife friendly, hardy, and a good mix of seasonal interest.

There will be more perennial planting used as this will be low maintenance and sustainable. The colour scheme was also inspired by the cloth and will include the colours yellow, pink, purple and orange. The structure of the planting is to provide some sort of colour all year round. This is being funded by the Future High Street Fund.
