Since my last blog, I have had the pleasure of opening two new businesses in the town center. First was The Birdhouse on Market Street, which opened on the 17th of July. This pub has not been used for nearly 10 years, and it is so good to see it brought back to life as a pub/music venue. They have already put on a good variety of acts and helped bring life back to that part of town. The lease on this building is longer than those inside Castle Place, so do not worry that this venue will be closing down soon; it will not.
Secondly, Majestic Wine opened on the 30th of July in the Old Town Bridge Garage. It is so good to see this vote of confidence in Trowbridge and have this long-disused building brought back into active service! Now I myself do not drink alcohol anymore (and feel so much better for it) but I was really impressed with the large range of AF (Alcohol Free) options they have there and ended up helping ensure their first month’s business was a profitable one.
Both these businesses will only stay in Trowbridge if they find it profitable to do so, so use them or lose them! I know I will.
Finally, on the 4th of August, I had the privilege of attending Amesbury’s Civic Service, which this year was held at Stonehenge! It was lovely to be allowed to go in and see the stones up close and take part in their Druid/Christian service representing the good people of Trowbridge.
A definite high point of my mayoral year so far!
