Under an hour’s drive from Trowbridge, and having fascinated the world for centuries, Stonehenge is of unique importance, and certainly one of the wonders of the prehistoric world: it is undoubtedly the best-known prehistoric monument in Europe. This World Heritage site is always a favourite to visit when discovering Wiltshire, and attracts visitors from all over the world, Stonehenge is also surrounded by the remains of ceremonial and domestic structures, with some dating back further than the monument itself.

The world-class exhibition and visitor centre houses 250 ancient objects and gives visitors the chance to come face-to-face with a 5,500 year old-man. The Neolithic houses allow you to step inside, to discover how the people of Stonehenge may have lived. Along with Stonehenge, the nearby town of Amesbury is claimed to be Britain’s oldest settlement, dating back to 8820BC.
