Community Spirit Shines Following Mornington Gardens Allotment Fire

Trowbridge Town Council would like to thank allotment holders, local residents and its Neighbourhoods Team for the tremendous community response following the serious fires at Mornington Gardens Allotments on Sunday 23rd August.

The fires caused significant damage across the site, affecting 13 plots as well as fencing, sheds and a greenhouse. While the incident was devastating for those allotment holders affected, the response that followed has demonstrated the strength of community spirit in Trowbridge.

In the days following the fires, the Mornington Gardens allotment community quickly rallied together to begin the clean-up and help those whose plots had been damaged. Trowbridge Town Council’s Neighbourhoods Team supported the work, including arranging four skips to assist with the removal of damaged materials.

The response also extended beyond the allotment site, with local residents generously donating a variety of items to help affected plot holders replace what had been lost and begin getting their allotments back up and running.

Trowbridge Town Council would like to extend its sincere thanks to everyone who has helped, whether by giving their time, assisting with the clean-up or donating equipment and materials.

The Council said: “What happened at Mornington Gardens was extremely upsetting for our allotment holders, but the response from the community has been wonderful to see. People have come together to help one another, and we are incredibly grateful to everyone who has contributed to the clean-up and recovery. It is a great example of the community spirit we have here in Trowbridge.”

Trowbridge Town Council’s allotment sites include Home Close Farm, Mornington Gardens and Southwick, with the Gloucester Road site leased by the Council to an allotment association.

Allotments provide residents with an opportunity to grow their own produce, spend time outdoors and become part of a friendly and supportive gardening community.
