Charitable End to Mayoral Year

Charitable End to Mayoral Year

After recently attending her final Council Meeting as Mayor of Trowbridge, outgoing councillor Linda Self presented cheques totalling over £11,000 to her two charities. Representatives from Alzheimer’s Support and Breakthrough Trowbridge were at the Civic Centre on the night to receive these contributions.
One of the cheques had earlier been presented to Mayor Self by members of a team of Trowbridge Town Council employees who raised over £4,500 by completing the Three Peaks Challenge in April this year, which involved climbing the three highest mountains on the mainland UK. The team also included Ulf Heinrichsdorff, a councillor from Trowbridge’s twin town of Leer in Germany, and Patrick Piercy from Tesco, one of the team’s sponsors.
Linda said “I have had an unbelievable year serving as Mayor of our town, and I am overwhelmed that so much money has been raised during my term. I’m particularly grateful to the Three Peaks Team, to Mike at the Kings Arms for hosting my charity quiz nights, to Trish and Alison, my secretaries at the Town Council, and also to my colleague and good friend Anne Ball for her sponsored silence, which alone raised £572!”
